"If you don't have empathy and effective personal relationships, no matter how smart you are, you won't get far."

I just Finished Reading "Emotional Intelligence" a best-selling book by psychologist, Daniel Goleman. The book challenges traditional understanding of Intelligence and explains how EI could be more important than IQ. Here are some thoughts:

Positives:

1️⃣ Broadening Horizons: The book challenges narrow views on intelligence while highlighting the essential role emotions play in our life.

2️⃣ Five Essential Components: The book introduces five core elements of Emotional Intelligence (EI): self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills.

3️⃣ A Shift in Perspective: The book invites us to take a step back from our busy schedule and reflect on our own emotional intelligence and its impact on personal and professional lives.

4️⃣ Backed by Examples and Studies: The real-world examples and studies supporting the concept of emotional intelligence makes the abstract idea relatable and easier to understand.

Could be better:

The book is lengthy and hence difficult to follow at times. Some of the sections are repeated a number of times and can prove to be arduous.

Overall, if you haven't read the book yet, it should be on the must read list! If you have read it, I would love to hear your thoughts.
